Hello! We are so excited to bring you the trailer to our new podcast, Mixunderstood - a show that aims to better understand what it is to be multiracial and multicultural. Are you mixed? Not mixed? Know someone who is mixed? Have a child who is mixed? Or simply just want to learn about mixed people? All are welcome here!
About us and the pod!
We met in LA in 2019 and immediately hit it off to become lifelong friends.
Not only do we share so much common ground with the fact that we both live in LA, work as actors and voice over artists, have a background in dance, love to cook up a storm, wear overalls like it’s our uniform (the list goes on), we are also both immigrants and of Mixed Heritage!
Hanna-Lee is Japanese-Australian and was born and brought up in Israel. Amy was born and brought up in the UK. Her Mother is Indian, Punjabi and her Father is English, Scottish.
During our numerous in depth conversations over a homemade cup of chai, we’ve exchanged countless stories about the struggles, as well as the positives of being racially and culturally mixed. Inevitably, Mixunderstood was born - A podcast where we talk to guests from different industries and various walks of life about their experiences and of course, share our own.
Our aim is to cultivate a space where mixed people can feel seen and heard,
where together, we can learn about and better understand what it means to be mixed, through studying historical figures, finding and sharing related resources, as well as bringing on experts in fields, such as anthropology, psychology and sociology.
In our first few episodes we’ve begun to explore (through the lense of being mixed) topics such as interracial marriage, mixed actors in the entertainment industry and the impacts of mixed identity on adolescent years.
We are passionate about delving into so many more themes, including code switching, displacement and immigration stories, the meaning of home and internalized racism.
Whether you’re mixed or not, all are welcome into this community we’re building.
We can’t wait to share Mixunderstood with you!
